The traditional art of Chinese clay figurines, known as “mud figurines”, is a nationally recognized form of Intangible Cultural Heritage in China. With a history spanning hundreds of years, this folk art combines sculpture, painting, and storytelling, vividly reflecting everyday life, folk customs, and historical legends.
 
Among the most famous is “Clay Figurines of Zhang” (泥人张) from Tianjin, renowned for its lifelike expressions and intricate craftsmanship. Each figurine is handcrafted using natural clay, shaped and painted with exquisite detail, making it both a cultural artifact and a work of art.
 
Today, clay figurine making continues to thrive as a symbol of Chinese folk creativity. It serves as an engaging way for younger generations to explore traditional Chinese culture through hands-on learning and artistic expression.
